    Southern Polytechnic State University Alumni Society invites alumni to come home

    It鈥檚 been six years since Southern Polytechnic and 快猫成版视频 State joined forces to create Georgia鈥檚 second-largest university. The consolidation of the two schools created a total alumni base of nearly 130,000 living graduates. In recognition of the history, legacy and traditions that were an integral part of SPSU, the 快猫成版视频 Alumni Association has chartered the Southern Polytechnic State University Alumni Society (SPSUAS).

    When it comes to describing 快猫成版视频 student George Williams, engineering professors Simin Nasseri and Mohammad Jonaidi find themselves rattling off a lengthy list of accomplishments. While serving as president of the KSU Motorsports student organization, Williams has carved out a niche for research in two departments within the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, co-authoring numerous journal papers and conference presentations. He also held two internships, one at industrial controls company Rovisys and another at Compass Technology Group, which specializes in electromagnetic high-frequency measurement. In his free time, he uses his technical writing skills to flex his creative muscle, writing science fiction novels.

A standout in the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, Foster is graduating this month with a degree in mechanical engineering and a minor in aerospace engineering.

Then a sophomore in the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SPCEET), she was admittedly a bit insecure about the prospects of joining an industry where change was the only constant. That is, until she landed her first internship. 鈥淭o me, internships represent a major pivot point in my college career because it provided a great deal of perspective and allowed me to carve out my niche in engineering,鈥 said Padgett, who graduates this month with a 4.0 GPA and a bachelor鈥檚 degree in industrial and systems engineering

    Prior to enrolling at 快猫成版视频, first-generation student Kamille Suarez-Paulino said there were few people who could offer guidance for her college career. Now a third-year student in The Coca-Cola First Generation and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Scholars program, the economics major wears her first-generation status as a badge of pride. Suarez-Paulino is one of 35 students who have benefited from the program made possible by a $1.25 million donation from The Coca-Cola Foundation.

Today, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia approved two new programs for the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology 鈥 a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Engineering and a Master of Science in Intelligent Robotic Systems 鈥 both of which will be offered starting in Fall 2021.

This week鈥檚 episode features Sylvia Bhattacharya, assistant professor of electrical engineering technology in the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology. She will discuss her U.S. Army-funded research in which she studies the behaviors of drivers and passengers in autonomous vehicles.
