Charts and graphs are common tools for people to share and discuss data surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, but those visuals may have the potential be misinterpreted by audiences, according to 快猫成版视频鈥檚 Sara Doan. Doan, assistant professor of technical communication, has studied graphs and charts published by media companies and magazines during the pandemic, revealing instances of misinformation 鈥� either intentional or unintentional 鈥� that give audiences skewed perceptions of the virus鈥� spread and effect on society.

Professor helps open German Studies pipeline

There are a couple of reasons German Studies looms large for 快猫成版视频 students majoring in foreign languages and fields as diverse as engineering, the sciences, music and the arts, criminal justice and international business. Sabine Smith鈥檚 determination to make KSU鈥檚 program as comprehensive, rigorous, relevant and inclusive as possible is one of them. As German Studies program coordinator and professor in the Foreign Languages Department in 快猫成版视频 State鈥檚 Norman J. Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences, her efforts have generated more than $1.25 million to support the study of German language and culture at KSU.

How historical events are presented to students influences their understanding and overall grasp of historical concepts, according to 快猫成版视频 researchers James Newberry and Adina Langer. Recording and compiling oral histories, video clips and interviews of people who experienced major historical events firsthand allows for students to make a human connection and 鈥渕eet history face-to-face,鈥� explained Langer and Newberry.

KSU public relations student organization earns national award

快猫成版视频鈥檚 chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) recently received a national award for its efforts that increased the chapter鈥檚 membership more than eightfold. 快猫成版视频 State PRSSA won the Dr. F.H. Teahan Award for Chapter Development at the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) International Conference. The KSU chapter was recognized for its recruitment initiatives, chapter programming, member involvement and relationship with its sponsoring PRSA chapter after boosting its membership from five to 42 members in the 2019-20 academic year.

Graduate student wins Georgia screenwriting award

快猫成版视频 graduate student Kandace James has won first prize in the Georgia Shorts Film Festival for her short film screenplay 鈥淐utting Teeth.鈥� A second-year student in KSU鈥檚 Master of Arts in Professional Writing program, James beat out four other finalists in the contest, which was part of a consortium of film festivals nationwide but focused on Georgia-inspired narratives.

KSU Receives Multi-Million Dollar Gift to Name Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences

快猫成版视频 has received a $9 million gift from real estate executive Norman J. Radow and his wife Lindy to benefit the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. It is rare for a public College of Humanities and Social Sciences to be the beneficiary of this level of philanthropy from a single donor. In recognition of the gift, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia has approved the naming of the College as the Norman J. Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
