Four KSU students to present at Georgia state capitol

KENNESAW, Ga. | Feb 9, 2023

Four 快猫成版视频 students will present their research February 27 at Posters at the Georgia State Capitol.

Brittany Aguilar (mentored by professor of mathematics education Paula Guerra), Kimberly Gomes (mentored by director of the Center for the Advancement of Military and Emergency Services Research and assistant professor of psychology Brian Moore), Emma Smalley (mentored by assistant professor of communication Robin Mathis), and Dalvin Ross (mentored by associate professor of architecture Pegah Zamani) are among the 40 undergraduate students across the state selected for the presentation.

Posters at the Georgia State Capitol is an annual event hosted by the Georgia Undergraduate Research Collective where undergraduate students from the state of Georgia present their posters to state legislators.

Dr. Amy Buddie, director of KSU鈥檚 Office of Undergraduate Research, said the event is a good learning opportunity for students to learn how to present to a general audience. Legislators won鈥檛 know all the jargon of a profession, so it鈥檚 a lesson in making presentations more accessible.

Aguilar, an elementary education major from 快猫成版视频, said she鈥檚 thankful for the opportunity for her research to be brought to a larger audience. Aguilar鈥檚 research project is 鈥淟atinx Children and Culturally Relevant Fractions Lessons.鈥�

Gomes will present her research, "Predictors of Positive and Negative Affect in Deployed Military Medical Personnel.鈥�

鈥淧resenting at Posters at the Georgia State Capitol is a wonderful opportunity to share my research with other professionals and policymakers to promote awareness of the existing needs of service members,鈥� said Gomes, a psychology major from Roswell.

Smalley, a criminal justice major from Peachtree City, said she鈥檚 anticipating sharing her research with state representatives and like-minded researchers at the Capitol. Smalley鈥檚 research project is 鈥淟aw and Legislation: Women Communication Challenges in Masculine Professions," and is being conducted with assistant professor of communication Dr. Robin Mathis.

Ross, an architecture major from Townsend, will present his project, 鈥淐hattahoochee River Front: Sustaining A Lost Culture through Environmental and Social Stewardship of Native American Cultural Center.鈥�

Posters at the Georgia State Capitol began in 2019. This year鈥檚 contingent will mark 26 KSU participants since the program鈥檚 inception.
