"Dr. Tseng has been a fantastic partner, overseeing tremendous growth in programming and advocating tirelessly for undergraduate researchers," Director of Undergraduate Research Amy Buddie said. "With his interdisciplinary expertise, he has contributed to various programs, including the Sophomore Scholars Program, Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) program, the Summer Undergraduate Research Program, the Undergraduate Research Peer Mentor Program, and more."

Highlighting Tseng's significant contributions, Buddie adds, "he is full of ideas that have made our existing processes and programs better. His influence on undergraduate research at this institution will be felt for years to come.鈥濃

Through his initiatives, he raised awareness about the benefits of research, incorporated cross-disciplinary opportunities, and helped launch various programs.

"Because of my background in bioinformatics and pre-existing faculty network, I was able to effectively communicate with students and faculty in various disciplines, and most importantly, I was able to speak their language," Tseng said.

Tseng served as an advocate for cross-disciplinary research, reaffirming the belief that interest knows no disciplinary boundaries. Recognizing the importance of leveraging existing networks, Tseng explained, "by tapping into my extensive network of faculty members, I have been able to facilitate effective communication and demonstrate how cross-disciplinary research can be successfully carried out."

Tseng added, 鈥渃ross-disciplinary research is not an easy path, but one that is undeniably worthwhile, as it ensures our students are equipped to rise to the challenges and opportunities that await them."

An additional example of Tseng's commitment to empowering students is the establishment of the Peer Mentor Program. This initiative allows students to support and guide their peers while setting a high bar for research excellence.

"It鈥檚 important for students to know that they have role models on campus who can guide them in developing their research expertise,鈥 Tseng said. 鈥淭hese peer mentors also communicate KSU鈥檚 remarkable standing within the field of research to the broader campus community.鈥

However, Tseng's vision of research extends beyond KSU, as he idealizes a future where students can confidently navigate the broader academic and professional landscapes. He encourages KSU students to not only acquire knowledge but also understand how to leverage it effectively in real-world scenarios.

"Our aspiration is to empower students to compete externally and enable them to emerge as leaders of their respective fields,鈥 he said.

In a practical sense, he aims to assist students in navigating the resources developed within the Office of Undergraduate Research and provide them with the necessary encouragement to pursue their external endeavors. By emphasizing the importance of practicality and hands-on experience, Tseng prepares students to apply their skills and expertise in competitive environments.

As Tseng transitions back to a full-time faculty member, his goals include resuming his research, supporting students in their academic pursuits, and exploring the evolutionary patterns of transport proteins and metagenomic datasets.

Under Tseng's leadership, undergraduate research at 快猫成版视频 has flourished, empowering students to embrace research opportunities and excel in their fields. Through his initiatives and unwavering dedication, Tseng has made a lasting impact on the university's research landscape.鈥
